The Nelson School Board consists of dedicated community members who
meet monthly to insure that goals are identified and that all needs are
addressed. The School Board holds a yearly retreat for the Nelson School
Staff to review the progress made on previous year's goals and to
generate short and long term goals for the upcoming year. This retreat
is unique in that all voices are heard, respected, and given equal
weight. Policies and curriculum are worked on jointly for the betterment
of all students and staff. The School Board also invites the former 6th
grade students back to Nelson School each fall to talk about their
experiences transitioning to Keene Middle School. Many of their
suggestions have made the transition for the next class easier.
NELSON SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS: The Nelson School
Board meets monthly. Meeting notices are posted on the town bulletin
boards and at the school. Members of the community are always welcome to
attend these meetings in order to gain a better understanding of the
projects and goals of the School Board.
PUBLIC HEARING: Each January a public hearing is
held to discuss the Nelson School Budget. Each item is gone through line
by line with the members of the community, an explanation for each item
is offered and questions are answered. Voting: In March, the School
Budget is presented and voted upon. As a whole, the community of Nelson
has passed each new budget placed before them, understanding that the
education of our children is of the utmost importance.
